A Change in Diagnosis: Marilyn Finds Her New Normal
Marilyn was visiting her daughter in Florida when she noticed that the back of her legs from her knees down were extremely bruised. For 30 years, Marilyn had been living with a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) called essential thrombocythemia (ET) Now she suspected that her condition was changing. She noticed that she was more tired than she had been before.
An MPN specialist confirmed that Marilyn’s ET had transformed into myelofibrosis (MF). Like ET, MF is an MPN, which is a rare, chronic blood cancer—but it’s different from ET in many ways. Marilyn realized that she needed to learn all she could about her MF. She also knew that she didn’t want the disease to change who she was. Marilyn was determined to stay positive and find the new normal for her life.
