MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE MPN COMMUNITY: THE 2016 MPN HEROES
What do a cancer institute nurse, a passionate patient advocate, a selfless caregiver, and a groundbreaking researcher have in common? The answer is simple—they’ve all been recognized for their unique and remarkable efforts in supporting patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) like polycythemia vera (PV), myelofibrosis (MF), or essential thrombocythemia (ET). They’re also just a few of the extraordinary individuals who have been formally selected for recognition as 2016 MPN Heroes.
Created in the spirit of fostering increased MPN awareness and community, the MPN Heroes Recognition Program proudly honors patients, Healthcare Professionals, caregivers, advocates, and organizations or institutions that contribute to bringing understanding, compassion, and strength to the MPN community. From advocating for better MPN care to demonstrating compassion, courage, sacrifice and strength, MPN Heroes offer inspiration, education, and support. They come from all walks of life—and from all across the country—to make a difference in the lives of MPN patients everywhere.

Meet the 2016 MPN Heroes
An ongoing tradition of recognizing the heroic efforts of those making a difference
2016 marks the 4th anniversary of the MPN Heroes Recognition Program, sponsored by Incyte Corporation and CURE magazine. This annual program is designed to create as many opportunities as possible for people with MPNs to be heard and supported so that improved solutions and treatment options may emerge. Individuals or organizations can be nominated for recognition in one of two categories:
- Commitment to the Individual
Recognizes individuals who provide or demonstrate care, guidance, education, or support above and beyond the standard of care for one or more patients with MPNs
- Commitment to the Broader MPN Community
Recognizes leadership in developing services and programs that address the needs of patients with MPNs, families, friends, caregivers, and Healthcare Professionals by advancing the science and medical understanding of MPNs, education, awareness, or approaches to care
All of the 2016 MPN Heroes will be formally recognized at a celebration event hosted by CURE Media Group in San Diego, California, on December 2, 2016.
